The Major Gifts Officer is a new position designed to strengthen SBY's ability to fulfill its mission through increased revenue from individuals, corporations and private foundations. The Major Gift Officer will identify, qualify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors, expanding their financial support of SBY and its mission and programs. He/she will be responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization and assist donors in creating meaning in their lives through giving to SBY.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Determines direction of and implements new programs for individual major gifts, corporate giving, and foundation giving.
Ensures effective stewardship programs are in place to support new major gifts programs.
Works with key staff and board members to identify fundraising priorities and develops case statements for major gifts.
Participates in the development of policies, systems and procedures relating to the major gifts program and marketing materials for the major gift effort.
Builds SBY's capacity over the course of at least three years to operate a high-functioning, results-oriented major gifts program focused on new donor recruitment, donor retention and stewardship.
Builds and maintains a portfolio of approximately 75-100 prospects using annual fund data and research tools.
Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward important donors, friends of donors and major gift prospects, including stakeholders at local or national corporations. Responsible for soliciting gifts of $10,000 and higher from these individuals and institutions.
Coordinate and lead the major gifts program, monitoring all prospect contacts and working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors and Development staff to identify, cultivate and appropriately solicit supporters.
Personally conducts six face-to-face visits per month.
Tracks and reports relationship management activity using Salesforce, including identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospective and current major donors.
Develops meaningful recognition for each closed major gift that strengthens relations and brings appropriate desired visibility to donors, while leveraging overarching stewardship opportunities as available.
Participates in meetings of the governing board’s fundraising committee and facilitate meetings of the Major Gifts Task Force.
Meets annually established goals for the major gift portfolio.
Leads all aspects of the gift cycle:
Initiates contacts with potential leadership and major gift donors.
Develops appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including volunteers.
Moves potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
Makes solicitations when appropriate, with initial target of 10 per year.
Maintains stewardship contacts with donors, adhering to the highest ethical standards.
Coordinates with and helps inform all other Development Office efforts, including direct mail, online giving and events.
