ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Principal Gift Officer will collaborate and partner closely with the National Director of Principal & Major Gifts, as well as the national office’s and affiliate offices’ development teams, to develop, implement, and maintain a thriving fundraising effort nationally. He/she will maximize Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s (PPFA) principal gift portfolio as a frontline fundraiser and expertly manage and strengthen ongoing donor relations for those with a capacity to make investments at the six- and seven-figure level.
Specifically, the Principal Gift Officer will enact strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, engage, solicit, and steward a portfolio of both existing donors and prospects at the principal gifts level ($250,000+). He/she will build and manage a network of relationships with prospective and current donors nationally and promote positive relations, evaluate various gift opportunities, and serve as a philanthropy advisor and spokesperson for PPFA. For each relationship, the Principal Gift Officer will collaborate with the prospect’s or donor’s multiple stakeholders in the affiliate or national offices to coordinate, create, and facilitate communication, thereby ensuring a unified cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship effort.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will be a sophisticated fundraiser and team player with deep knowledge of major donors and individual giving across the nation. He/she will share a passion for PPFA’s purpose, mission, and values and will have a desire to serve as an ambassador of the organization. The successful candidate will also understand the importance of partnerships and relationship building with an ability to manage a complex network of donor and affiliate relationships.
Key Professional Attributes and Professional Experiences Include:
Significant portfolio management experience of at least 7-10 years; demonstrated success as a front-line fundraiser executing complex donor strategies and soliciting six and seven-figure commitments (knowledge of the New York City philanthropic donor community preferred);
Proven ability to build deep and lasting relationships with a variety of internal and external partners, including funders, donors, board members, and PPFA staff nationally;
Experience with and a deep understanding of the political landscape including diversity and inclusiveness (political fundraising experience a plus);
Outstanding oral, written, communication and presentation skills, including experience listening and tailoring communication to different audiences and donor needs;
Articulate and persuasive, with comfort representing and promoting PPFA externally and internally as a surrogate for senior leadership;
Strong organizational and project management skills with proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting managing multiple assignments and quickly changing priorities;
A team player with interpersonal savvy who understands how to incorporate internal stakeholders and work across team lines; and
Gravitas with a high level of professional integrity, ambition, and diplomacy and a deep commitment to the work of PPFA.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required; additional related academic courses and/or professional training preferred.
TRAVEL: Domestic travel approximately 25-40%.
