About The Community Foundation The Greater Washington Community Foundation’s mission is to strengthen the Washington metropolitan region by encouraging and supporting effective philanthropy and by providing leadership on critical issues in the community. The Foundation is a community of givers, dedicated to inspiring and creating change across greater Washington and beyond.
The Community Foundation, which serves the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Northern Virginia, and Prince George’s County – is part of a network of some 700 community foundations nationwide, each a tax-exempt, public charity made up of charitable giving funds established by individuals, families, corporations, and other organizations. The Foundation manages hundreds of donor funds, with assets totaling more than $300 million, and is the largest funder of nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan Washington region, having granted over $1 billion to over 8,000 nonprofits in its 43-year history.
The Community Foundation seeks a highly organized, strategic, and experienced fundraising professional with outstanding team management skills, strong relationship instincts, and a proven record of building best practice fundraising systems and processes. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Donor Services (“VP") will report to and work closely with the CEO, VP, Development (who leads our new donor fund development efforts, particularly with Professional Advisors, and who is our primary major gifts and planned giving advisor), senior staff, and members of the Board to develop and implement key donor engagement strategies and internal systems and processes to support donor engagement and fundraising. The VP will lead the Donor Services team to steward The Community Foundation’s significant individual and institutional relationships. In addition, the VP will enhance and streamline internal systems and processes to support outstanding service to donors and areas of fundraising that are priorities for significant growth over the next three to five years.
