The Director of Stewardship and Development (DSD) will develop, coordinate, and implement processes to ensure that compelling stewardship teaching and practices are integral to all aspects of congregational life. The DSD reports to the Rector and will work closely with clergy, staff, and parish leaders to establish and meet organizational goals.
Coordinate the design of a comprehensive stewardship strategy consistent with rector and vestry’s goal to create a culture of gratitude and generosity grounded in theology of stewardship > Analyze giving patterns, develop best practices to engage all members of the congregation
Execute the annual stewardship plan with staff, vestry and parishioners, including donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and recognition > Recruit and support annual stewardship chairs in conjunction with the rector > Recruit and guide stewardship committees > Oversee planning and implementation of stewardship events
Track and monitor results to improve performance
Support and expand recently revived Planned Giving initiative, “Iona Society” > Train and support committee members, cultivate prospective donors, develop collateral and print material, design and execute special events as needed
Coordinate with director of communications to develop compelling stewardship messaging by mail, email, social media, and newsletters, including donor stories
Coordinate with education/formation staff in comprehensive stewardship teaching for all ages, including children > Coordinate with Adult Formation Team to provide classes on financial management, end-of-life preparation, and estate planning
Cultivate donors with significant giving capacity; design special events as needed; manage rector’s relationships with top 5-10% of giving members
Maintain donor records
Develop opportunities to coordinate fundraising with St. Columba’s Nursery School (100 students, $1,900,000 annual budget) for mutual benefit
Track and supervise all special giving at St. Columba’s. This includes, but is not limited to, memorial gifts and bequests
Provide staff support for special parish-wide fundraising efforts
Develop and pursue strategic opportunities for writing grants and raising funds from non-parish sources
Prepare for future capital campaign (anticipated launch of 2019)
Perform other job activities as directed by the Rector
The qualified candidate will be a donor-centered and metrics-driven fundraiser who thrives in a highly cross-functional and relational culture. The ideal candidate will be a person of faith, committed to the theology and practice of stewardship. Essential experience includes working with parishioners, volunteer leaders and high-level prospects, a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of proven fundraising experience.
Crucial knowledge for this role includes strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills; flexibility as a team player who believes in excellent customer service; the abilities to manage multiple projects, to work independently and to take initiative on new projects; a high degree of organization and attention to detail; and discretion in handling confidential information. Strong project management skills are essential. Flexibility required to accommodate after?hours events.
Candidate must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, MS Excel, spelling and grammar. Donor database experience preferred with familiarity in ACS being highly desirable. Candidate must have the ability to learn new applications quickly.
