Round House Theatre seeks an experienced and dynamic front-line fundraiser as Major Gifts Officer (MGO). The MGO will create, develop, and execute both short-term and long-term strategic fundraising plans to meet annual and capital campaign fundraising goals. Reporting to the Director of Development, the MGO serves as an essential member of the theatre’s five-person development team.
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) works closely with the Managing Director and Director of Development to actively drive fundraising efforts from individual donors with a focus on 4-, 5- and 6-figure gifts in support of the capital campaign and annual fund. The MGO will serve as the primary steward and solicitor of a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects and current donors. The MGO must be an experienced fundraiser and self-directed team member who cultivates strong relationships with patrons to deepen engagement and increase support. The position will be based primarily at the Administrative Office in Silver Spring but will occasionally need to work at the Theatre in Bethesda. Participation in our fast-paced environment includes some weekend and evening hours for opening nights and other special events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with Managing Director and Director of Development to develop and refine major gift strategies to increase individual giving to the annual fund and to ensure the successful outcome of the $14 million Full Circle capital campaign.
Participate in and lead identification, cultivation, and solicitations of individual donors and prospects for both the annual fund and the capital campaign
Create annual fund communication strategies and materials, including acquisition, renewal, and upgrade direct mail and email campaigns.
Write briefings and proposals for prospect meetings; compile contact reports; and track donor activity within the Spektrix database.
Identify prospects and secure support for two major special event fundraisers.
Create programming from conception through execution to cultivate and steward donors.
Share responsibility for reaching capital campaign and annual giving fundraising goals.
Qualifications and Capabilities
Bachelor's degree required.
A minimum of five (5) years of Development experience and proven success in front-line fundraising.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
Successful track record working with boards, donors, the public and staff.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to achieve results in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
Proficiency with donor databases, Macs, and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Schedule flexibility and ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
Experience in a performing arts organization, especially theatre, is desirable.
