Job Description
Charles E. Smith Life Communities is seeking a Director of Gift Planning to work as part of an experienced Development team. This seven member team runs a mature multi-faceted fundraising program that has raised approximately $31 million since 2008. Bequests and irrevocable deferred gifts account for approximately 40% of this total. The Board and administration of Charles E. Smith Life Communities recognize the strategic importance of legacy giving to ensure the future viability and growth of the organization. Through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned gift donors and prospects, the Director of Gift Planning is accountable for planning, implementing, growing and evaluating the overall gift planning program at Charles E. Smith Life Communities. This individual will report to the Vice President of Development and Public Affairs and is based out of Charles E. Smith Life Communities Campus in Rockville, Maryland.


Requirements
The Director of Gift Planning should have a minimum of 5-7 years of gift planning experience in a medium to large non-profit with a successful fundraising record. S/he will have a strong background in traditional and complex gift planning, including but not limited to legacy giving, life estates, bequests and deferred giving. S/he must understand federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to fundraising, particularly related to planned gifts. The ideal candidate will have the ability to build strong relationships with prospects, donors, patients and their families, Board members, the Senior Leadership team and the Development team.
