4 Year Degree
A Wider Circle has grown every year since its founding in 2001, and this year we are seeking to take a quantum leap forward in our capacity and our impact. The Vice President` of Development will take the lead in this leap, helping to elevate A Wider Circle as it grows regionally and works nationally to bring the appropriate urgency to poverty eradication.
A Wider Circle has experienced significant growth in the past year, including opening a new center in our nation’s capital, initiating a comprehensive five-year individualized ascencion out of poverty program for families, and developing large-scale partnerships with those we serve and those who are engaged in poverty eradication work.
We begin 2019 with our sights set on greater expansion of current programs and launching a statewide plan to end poverty and an initiative to bring greater workforce development opportunities to those in underserved communities. The conditions faced by those in poverty have not changed at nearly the proportion of the expenditure in this country on programs and services addressing it. There has been a significant output for a modest outcome, and we are working hard to help change that. A Wider Circle is continually changing and adapting its programs and services in this effort.
In the coming year, the organization will pursue without compromise outcomes such as ensuring that everyone in our midst has their basic needs met as well as opportunity to pursue employment with the expectation of success. We will pursue both at our headquarters in Silver Spring and at our neighborhood centers located within low income neighborhoods. The centers will be holistic in their approach, with a primary focus on jobs and workforce development.
The Vice President of Development will be responsible for the planning, management, growth, and oversight of all departments within the Outreach and Development branch of A Wider Circle, which include the following areas:
Individual and corporate giving
Government and foundation grants and contracts
The Vice President of Development will have exceptional communication skills, the readiness to lead, and the courage and willingness to commit at a high level to the growth of this work. The incumbent will make presentations in the region across the country, both with the president and on his or her own, bringing a sense of urgency and strong leadership to the above areas and to our overall effort to help build the movement to end poverty. This will require the ability to travel as necessary to share our work and build support across sectors. This position is 75% outward facing and 25% providing support to the development team. The Vice President will report to A Wider Circle’s founder and President/CEO.
Some responsibilities include:
Creating and implementing a strategic plan to meet the large and small goals in each of the areas listed above
Proactively arrange meetings with major sponsors, including corporations, individual donors, foundations, local and state government, and philanthropists
Monitoring and ensuring that fundraising goals are met monthly, quarterly, and annually, adjusting as necessary at each step
Conducting formal performance reviews for all department leaders on the development team on a biannual basis
10 – 15 years of professional experience in marketing, development, and related fields
5 years in a supervisory role
Commitment, energy, and an unyielding desire to be a change-agent in the movement to end poverty
The ability to speak to and coalesce large groups of stakeholders
