Position Overview: The Institutional Giving Manager will lead all fundraising activities related to foundation, corporate foundation and government grants. The Institutional Giving Manager will operate as a frontline fundraiser and project manager. The manager will lead the foundation pipeline from prospects to relationships to compliance and reporting, in support of the Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School mission and ongoing operations and strategic initiatives.
To be successful in this role, you should bring a track record for designing and implementing fundraising strategies for institutional funders, closing high five and six-figure gifts; and experience building and maintaining donor relations. You should be comfortable working in an environment that requires you to juggle multiple priorities and competing deadlines, while never losing sight of the overarching goals and desired outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and execute a multi-year strategy for expanding private foundation, corporate foundation, and government philanthropic support as a core component of AoH’s broader development planning
Manage a portfolio of foundation, government, and corporate funders
Work collaboratively with program and development staff to create customized solicitation strategies for each funder, including matching AoH’s objectives with the interests of the prospect
Manage and prepare application proposals for both annual and special projects funding, writing and editing grant copy, including the creation of proposal timelines and interim reports, and collaboration with other departments to develop and gather program-specific narratives and supporting information
Write compelling proposals and reports that meet the deadlines assigned by funders
Work with staff, Board of Directors, and other key partners and donors to make connections with prospective institutional donors
Steward current relationships as well as develop strategies to approach new prospects and re-engage lapsed funders
Work closely with administrative staff to coordinate detailed agendas for meetings and site visits; and support the team with other projects and events as needed.
Work collaboratively with development team to research institutional giving prospects, and document information in Donor Database and other systems.
Work closely with Development team to oversee documentation and fulfillment of foundation stewardship programs, including giving level benefits and amenities where appropriate
Attend networking events in the community on a regular basis
Collaborate with Development staff on meeting or exceeding targeted financial goals
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
5+ years of professional corporate and foundations relations, preferably in an entrepreneurial nonprofit environment
Excellent communication skills to include effective and persuasive writing and editing skills, and interpersonal relationship-building skills
Ability to travel to meetings (by public transportation and/or car) and to get around DC comfortably.
Pre-existing knowledge of and experience working with the local philanthropic community
Strong customer service skills with excellent follow up and follow through
Ability to work in a small team environment
Flexibility and willingness to learn and ability to adapt to the fast pace of a high performing team

Experience in adult literacy preferred
Experience with public charter schools a plus
Proficient in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Experience in Donor Perfect or donor database preferred
