The George Mason University, Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations within the College of Education and Human Development invites applications for an Associate Director of Development. Reporting to the Director of Advancement, the Associate Director will assist in the preparation of annual and strategic plans for fundraising, and oversee the implementation of these plans. The Associate Director of Development will be responsible for seeking financial support from alumni and friends. This person will plan and implement a variety of solicitations and events in conjunction with the director of development and other development staff.
Manage a portfolio of 100 – 150 prospects with proven or identified capacity to make annual gifts at the $2,500 level and major gifts at the $50,000 level;
Renew and increase current donors, and create solicitation strategies for prospects;
Annually complete 75 meaningful face to face donor visits and implement a successful moves management process for all donors and prospective donors;
Actively research and seek out new prospective donors; demonstrate creativity in finding new prospects;
Maintain all current actions in ADVANCE (donor database).
Annual Fund Support
Work with Central Development for specific CEHD annual giving appeals; serve as CEHD representative to Annual Giving;
Supplement Central Advancement with emails, phone calls, social media campaigns and other creative initiatives;
Coordinate all CEHD division and program based fundraising appeals;
Increase number of CEHD alumni donors;
Ensure that appeals are well-planned, well-executed and effective;
Oversee staff and faculty giving programs;
Oversee annual Giving Day programming for CEHD and integrate with Central Advancement programming.
Alumni Relations Support
Work with the Office of Alumni Affairs to create and execute effective ways of engaging CEHD alumni through events and communications;
Act as a contact and resource for CEHD departments and programs seeking to contact and engage alumni;
Identify alumni stories for use in all communication including, website, e-newsletters, and all social media outlets.
Execute existing stewardship plan for CEHD donors and find creative and effective ways to expand the program;
Work with CEHD Student Academic Affairs in the scholarship award process; ensure fund spend out and donor acknowledgement;
Work with Financial Aid office and SAA regarding scholarship recipients;
Ensure CEHD donors are included in University-wide stewardship events.
Work with Central Advancement and GMU Foundation in gifts processing, foundation fund creation and administration, and when necessary, OSP interface;
Work with CEHD divisions and programs to coordinate communications;
Support CEHD-wide events such as, Convocation, Celebration of Scholarship, visits of dignitaries and speakers, and other events as needed;
Liaise with Alumni Affairs and Central Development as needed;
Excellent communication and coordination with all CEHD programs; ensure issues are resolved quickly;
CEHD programs are supported adequately in their alumni outreach and student/faculty scholarship efforts.
Analysis, Tracking and Filing
Maintain accurate and timely records using appropriate software and follow GMU policies and procedures;
Track donations, maintain files, and provide projections; run routine gift reports;
Ensure donor records are clear, complete and accurate;
Solicitation campaign results are tracked and analyzed regularly for effectiveness.
Master's degree required; equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for advanced degree;
Ability to work independently on a wide variety of tasks and is organized and self-motivated;
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, be poised, confident and proficient at engaging all types of volunteers and donors;
Ability to function as a positive and contributing member of both a small team focused on college development and communications, and as a part of the larger university development operation;
Direct donor contact experience and a successful track record in soliciting gifts;
Previous experience in higher education is a plus.
